01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
02 - Arrange the sliced bananas evenly along the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
03 - Evenly distribute the drained crushed pineapple over the banana layer.
04 - Scatter the halved maraschino cherries evenly across the pineapple layer.
05 - Sprinkle the entire dry yellow cake mix evenly over the layered fruit. Do not mix.
06 - Evenly distribute the chocolate chips and, if using, the chopped walnuts or pecans on top of the cake mix.
07 - Drizzle the melted butter as evenly as possible over the entire top.
08 - Bake in the center of the oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is golden and edges are bubbling.
09 - Allow to cool slightly before serving. Top individual portions with whipped cream, whole maraschino cherries, and chocolate syrup if desired.
