01 - Place jasmine rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs completely clear, approximately 2-3 minutes.
02 - Transfer rinsed rice to a medium saucepan. Add coconut milk, water, salt, and sugar if using. Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
03 - Place saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, watching carefully to prevent overflow.
04 - Reduce heat to low and cover tightly with a lid. Simmer for 15 minutes until all liquid is absorbed and rice is tender.
05 - Remove from heat and keep covered. Allow rice to steam for 10 minutes to complete cooking process.
06 - Remove lid and fluff rice gently with a fork. Serve immediately as a side dish.
